Dinner

Dinner with us is only available for group bookings of 5 or more people see below for more details but you won't go hungry as there are good places to eat close by in Crianlarich or Tyndrum as well as many excellent places a little further afield. Below* is a list of places that we have eaten at so can definitely testify to their quality! Also, we are still licensed and with a help yourself bar, so you can always enjoy an after dinner drink back at the house. We don't have a curfew either so you can be out as late as you like! If you are walking to the house don't worry, there will be no more walking back to the village for tired legs! We'll drop you down to Crianlarich or Tyndrum and then you get a taxi back which costs around £5.00 from Crianlarich and £6.00 from Tyndrum.

Crianlarich (5 minutes in the car!)

We would recommend the Crianlarich Hotel, it has two different menu types, a la carte and bar. The bar menu is reasonably priced , the food is well cooked and the staff are friendly too! The large room where it is served is relaxed and informal with comfy sofa's to flop in after dinner and cosy log burners lit in the colder months. The a la carte is served in the formal dining room and is more expensive but the menu is definitely more adventurous to reflect this!

Tyndrum (5 minutes the other way in the car!)

There are a few places here and all cater for different things but are all good in their own way. First up is the Real Food Cafe which does fantastic fish and chips, fresh cooked to order so please be aware there might be a little wait. They also do loads of other things, pies, burgers, curries, veggie tempura, homemade soups and amazing fresh salads to name but a few and all are of the same high quality using impeccably sourced ingredients. Lighter bites such as scones and cakes are also available and baked by a lady in the village! You can eat in or take-away and we are more than happy for you to bring food back to the house.

Next is The Green Welly Stop, something of a legend in the area! The restaurant is only open until 6pm but is great for lunch they serve a wide variety of well priced meals. They now also have a pizza/pasta restaurant which is open till 9pm and has a cosy modern interior with a lively atmosphere. Again, they do take-away too.

Next door is Tyndrum Lodge Hotel and Paddy's bar. Now I have to confess I haven't eaten in the hotel so I wouldn't like to offer an opinion here....I have eaten next door in Paddys though which has a lively, traditional pub type of atmosphere. Pool table, darts and jukebox so you get the idea! The food is typical bar fare so don't expect restaurant food but it is good so if you fancy burgers, fajita's , scampi, ribs then this is the place for you! The pizza's deserve a special mention too!

Further afield....

There are a couple of really special places that are just 15 minutes from here but are really worth the drive out. First is The Old Flax Mill at Glen Dochart which is a carvery type restaurant so a good one for meat lovers! Although I have to say the vegetarian option is always fantastic and being veggie, I can testify to this! The restaurant itself is small and cosy and Andrew and Lynette are lovely people. Andrew is the chef and very passionate about his food, he always wants you to try everything so prepare to come away stuffed! Lynette does the most amazing selection of desserts I've ever seen(white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake is a revelation, the lady is a genius!) so this is definitely a place with something for everyone.

The other place is The Bridge of Orchy Hotel which has a cosy, friendly feel. You can eat in either the bar or restaurant but both are informal. The food is delicious and the menu varied so should please everyone, a restaurant type experience if you are wanting something a bit special.

And now for something completely different.....The Old Drovers Inn at Inverarnan! This is 15 minutes again and people either love or hate this place! Personally, I love it but it isn't for the fainthearted......so the clue is in the name...old...it's a 16th century inn and I don't think it's been decorated since then....it's full of bizarre curiosities, lots of strange badly stuffed animals of ancient heritage amongst other things! The main bar has roaring log fires at either end and the sort of spooky candlelit atmosphere that never changes year round and you can imagine Rob Roy hanging out here quite easily! He might be stuffed somewhere....this bar fills quite quickly but there are a couple of equally bizarre side rooms that you can eat in too. The food is pub fare but really well cooked and if you are in at lunchtime then the sandwich's are amazing, proper chunky bread, massive! So if you are a little on the squeamish side then this might not be for you but if you are looking for something very...Scottish and a great buzzing atmosphere then you will love it!

A little further still....

The pretty little village of Killin is 25 minutes from here and well worth a visit for the famous falls which are especially spectacular after rain and it does rain here occasionally......so opposite the falls sits the Falls of Dochart pub which is a great spot to sit on a summers evening with a pint but it also does great food too. I've eaten here a number of times and the food is consistently good pub food. Also here is The Old Smiddy, just over the bridge and is getting a mention even though I've not managed to go yet (hopefully rectify that soon!) but I've had very good reports from a lot of different guests so feel confident to recommend it. It's only a small place but what's on offer sounds delicious and fresh cooked. There is also the bridge of Lochay hotel on the outskirts which is worth a visit and gets good feedback too.

These are just a few places, there are many others too numerous to mention here but if you are out and about on one of Ian's tours or travelling up to us from a distance away and would like to eat before you get here then just let us know and we can recommend places en-route.

If there are 5 or more of you then we offer dinner all year round at £15 per person for 2 courses of main and pudding. We pride ourselves on the quality of our home cooked food, all our meat is supplied by the award winning Aberfeldy butchers and is locally reared and free range. Animal welfare is very important to us and we will only use meat from well treated animals. Pre booking is a must as we cook everything fresh on the day. Also, on booking, we will ask you for any food likes or dislikes so we can tailor the menu to suit you . We can cover most dietary requirements and vegetarian food is a speciality. We are licensed and stock a good variety of wines, lagers, beers and spirits.

We have cooked a lot of different meals over the years but shown below is a small selection of what we can offer.

Main courses

Scottish beef and lamb roasts, wild venison, game casserole, Ian’s fantastic beef and root veg casserole, pheasant breasts with drambuie and cream sauce, fish pie, fillets of salmon, halibut or sea bass, steak, kidney and whisky pie, chicken and mushroom pie. All served with seasonal veg and potatoes

Vegetarian main courses

Creamy veg pie, veg cottage pie with leek and cheese mash, vegetarian noussaka with ricotta topping, 3 cheese tart, spinach and ricotta cannelloni, pasta with home made tomato sauce and roasted veg, chestnut, leek, apple and stilton crumble.

Desserts

Mini sticky toffee puddings, tarte au citron, lemon cheesecake, chocolate chestnut pudding. Treacle sponge, apple crumble and apple pie all home made and served with lashings of ice-cream, cream or, of course, custard!

This is just a really small sample of what we can offer so please ask if there is something you would really like. We will even do you complimentary birthday/anniversary cakes so please don’t be afraid to ask!
